What brings you here to Kristianopel?
I´m here on an internship at a farm near Kalmar and when I saw there was a marathon here I thought it would be a great idea to run. It´s only 40 km away so it was nice opportunity, nice organization also.
Have you run a lot of marathons?
No, this was my first one.
Oh, it was your first one! What did you think about it?
I started too fast I think, but with the wind from behind it was easy running that fast. I guess I didn´t drink as much as I should have in the beginning either. Maybe that was a mistake. I had some problems in the end with my calfs. I recon if I had drank more I maybe would´ve finished in 12th or 15th place instead.
What was your time?
3:25, I think.
That was a very good time for your first marathon. Have you done a lot of running?
No, mostly cycling before.
And will you running any other marathons in the near future?
Yes, in Quebec in August and maybe also Montreal in September.
So is this a trend that´s started now?
Well I started training for the marathon in October last year. Maybe triathlon also, I just have to start to swim.
Well, there is a pretty big triathlon in Kalmar in August
Yeah, I know, but I will be leaving the country on the 23rd of July to travel around Europe for a few weeks with my girlfriend
What would a normal trainingweek look like?
I try to run four times a week. Three times running around an hour with a longer run on the weekends. The longest I´ve run is 32km´s a two weeks ago and that gave me a good idea of what a marathon would be like. Now I know what it is. It´s hard, but it´s great when you finish.
What´s your goal within marathonrunning?
I would like to run under 3:10 in Quebec to be able to qualify for the Boston Marathon
How will you celebrate your first marathon?
I think I will cool down in the sea instead of taking a shower and then head back home and, I don´t know, just do nothing I think. Maybe talk with my girlfriend on skype.
So, what did you think about the event in general?
I thought it was really nice with trees all the way, maybe it would´ve been better with less sun and less wind. But, it´s always beautiful here in Sweden.
Is there anything that could be better?
The only thing would be if the people running the half-marathon had something on their backs so you knew that they weren´t running the marathon. I think that is why I started a little too fast. And maybe some bananas earlier, I like bananas. But otherwise nothing in particular. I heard some people saying that there should be water more often, but you know it´s 42km, so you just drink more when you get there instead. But it´s a great small marathon, very friendly.
